Chris Santa Maria received his BFA in Painting from ASU in 2006 with honors. He is the recipient of a 2005 professional development grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts for further study with his professor Beverly McIver in New York, NY. He has studio assisted for local artists Jon Haddock and Gregory Sale as well as interned with Director of Visual Arts Gregory Sale at the Arizona Commission on the Arts. This past year he completed a summer artist residency at the prestigious Yaddo Corporation in Saratoga Springs, New York with the aid of a 2007 Phoenix Art Museum Artist Grant. The Ted Decker Catalyst Fund supported his first solo exhibition Semper Fidelis last year at eye lounge and as co-president, Santa Maria has played a pivotal role in securing a sudden opportunities grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts for Cold Sweat; a gallery exchange project between eye lounge, Modified, and Milwaukee galleries Brooks Barrow and Hotcakes. For the past three years he has been the manager of Chiaroscuro Contemporary Art Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona and is currently applying to graduate schools. His solo exhibition 7 Portraits will be on display at eye lounge in April of 2008.
