E.G. Hall, Amanda Mollindo, Summer Young : Body Talk

  • eye lounge 922 North 5th Street Phoenix, AZ, 85004 United States (map)

Eye Lounge presents Body Talk, a group exhibition featuring new members E.G. Hall, Amanda Mollindo, and Summer Young. On display from October 21 to November 13, this show explores the human form in relationship to the self, nature, and cognitive processes.

E.G. Hall’s work is a process of decisions and material limitations — a process of knowing herself and the world. Inspired by the lack of control through her creative practice, E.G. makes woven sculptures that resemble the human body. With each ring of rope layered to build a form, she considers how she became who she is today, how people afflict their own bodies and each other’s, and how emotions and memory do the same.

Amanda Mollindo uses photography and mixed media to explore our forgotten connection to plant medicine. Long before the modern field of obstetrics and gynecology, our ancestors worked with nature to support their reproductive cycles. Amanda visualizes the knowledge maintained by contemporary herbalists and healers to emphasize how contraception, abortion, and pregnancy care have been essential to human survival.

Summer Raine Young explores the self through photography — not just out of interest, but out of necessity. Summer uses self portraiture to process their own identity and express vulnerability. As a queer, gender-fluid person, Their creative practice is a tool for personal healing, a method to create the representation that they lacked growing up, and a way to capture body language as a universal emotion.

Through fiber sculpture, mixed media, and photography, all three artists are interested in exploring how bodies connect and respond to the world around them. Join the artists for the opening reception on Friday, October 21, from 6 - 9 p.m., and during regular gallery hours.
