Takashi Hara’s solo exhibition, Indigo Wasabi, debuts at Eye Lounge on Roosevelt Road in Phoenix on Friday, November 18th and will be on display through December 11th. Hara was raised in Japan and traveled to North America to continue his art education. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Canada, and his Master’s degree in the United States. Hara uses his international experience to explore and comment on traditional Japanese constructs through Westernized contemporary art practices.

Indigo Wasabi is a collection of sculptural paintings of Kozo paper applied to stretch canvases that are manipulated, layered and torn – featuring images of traditional Japanese calligraphy, various applications of pigments, and chaotic manipulation of paper in order to reveal hidden truths that lie below the surface.
