Modern Merkin is an exploration of pubic decoration with feathers, frosting, animated gifs and more. This exhibition continues Samantha Lyn Aasen’s exploration of girlhood and womanhood and the balance between the two.

This show displays new photographs of Aasen’s ongoing Vajazzle series and an interactive javascript game titled #DIYJAZZLE. In the game visitors are invited to decorate Aasen’s own bare mons pubis with found animated gifs. The game is inspired by drag and drop doll makers online from the early 2000s.

This exhibition will display nudity, viewer discretion is advised.

Samantha Lyn Aasen has had exhibitions in Indiana, Arizona, Illinois, Nebraska, Toronto, and the UK. She holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Art in Photography from Herron School of Art and Design at Indiana University and a Studio Art MFA with an emphasis in Intermedia from Arizona State University. Currently she teaches at the Maricopa Community Colleges.
