The Usual Feelings

Eye Lounge Presents “The Usual Feelings”, Steven Allison’s first solo show at Eye Lounge and a first solo show in general. Steven presents paintings reflecting on his journey with depression and steps taken that have led to a more upbeat existence. In this body of work, he touches on ideas about death, love, relationships, anxiety, self-worth, and different philosophies that have helped him gain some understanding of existence. A big and unexpected step during the creation of this exhibition was Steven getting medicated just a few months before its opening, totally changing how his brain works and making it healthy… hurray.

The Usual Feelings is a show trying to condense down 15  years of suicidal existential dread starting from childhood and the journey to finding a reason to live and enjoy life. But not in a sad mopey kind of way, more in a cool fun kind of way; like if The Rock used to cut himself in middle school but now he’s The Rock. Plus no one would read a four-paragraph long sad dissertation on someone they don’t know. But you CAN GET TO KNOW Steven over at Eye Lounge during the showing of THE USUAL FEELINGS and if you show up when he’s not there, you still will get to know him cause the paintings are him.
