eye lounge is pleased to present Unwind: a community-oriented project, an exhibition of new interdisciplinary work by Cherie Buck-Hutchison.

Unwind

A man sits, elbows on knees. He presses

against a track of jelly yarn looping

his hands as if picturesque by request.

His spouse winds the skein with fast swoops.

A ball forms, reshapes as a diaphanous,

sublime cape to float significance through.

The finished mantle spreads across the living room

like night unfurls upon drowsy cranes.

We each insist on donning the plume

of purled and silver mist, folding our names

in gauzy creases of swift influence.

The frog closure at our neck compresses.

The caressing wrapper grows hot, impugns

its tug on our shoulders is our address.

Now the frog is broken; we swallow gloom.

Wind worsts the wrap into a whip on new terrain.

We sweat, stumble with our shroud, a tomb

and wrest for scissors, knife, to breath, remain.

Nearby, a light bulb illuminates

men inside a back room, though darkness

visits our street. They say their throats are groomed,

fine tools as they wind on woolen nests

of silk scarves and coats. “Keep your chin up, oooh . . .

lest you choke,” they jest.

We look around, step away, breath consumes

our thoughts. Jabs begin, needles of pain

in our neck where the frog clasp blooms.

A fringe of metallic thread, untamed,

beckons. We unwind the pseudo cocoon.

Threads luminescence as we walk, decompress,

draw gold shapes in the night opportune.

We breathe; walk through our garden in the moon

to toss crushed gossamer threads over cress.

The exhibition will run from October 20 through November 12, 2017. The artist will host on opening reception on Friday, Oct 20th from 6 – 10 pm and be in the gallery for First Friday on Nov 3, 2017, during regular eye lounge hours and by appointment.

Eye Lounge Gallery is located at 419 E Roosevelt Street in Phoenix. The gallery is open Fridays from 6 -10 pm, Saturdays 1-5pm, Sundays from 11am-3pm, and during MADE gift shop hours.
