Rebecca Ross works as a photographer, public artist, collaborator, and teacher. Recent public art projects incorporate photographs on steel and dyed aluminum; sculpture; ceramics; poetry; codes; glass tile; and water features. Her photographs have appeared in more than 100 juried and invitational exhibitions nationally and abroad at venues such as the Eye Gallery, San Francisco; Society for Contemporary Photography, Kansas City; and the Canon Photo Gallery, Amsterdam. Ross’s awards include a Visual Arts Fellowship and Artist Project Grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts. During the 2020 Pandemic, Ross quarantined with family and began walking her dog in a different neighborhood each day. Considering the current political climate, she began noticing the many flags she saw during her daily rambles. Her curiosity about these displays and the people behind them sparked her newest project, one that catalogs flags as icons and examines the broader concepts of patriots and patriotism.
