Kim Sweet earned her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. In 2016 she became an Eye Lounge member. Here she has had three solo exhibitions: So Lightly Here in 2017, Unbecoming in 2018, and here|now in 2020. The human form and the landscape are the focus of her work. They are painted to flicker between what they seem to be and what they are: image and material surface, representation and paint. When asked about her work, Kim says, "For me the studio is a place to get a glimpse at things that seem unclear. My practice helps me look at my choices, both as a painter and as a human being. My works are a bit of a meditation on the unconscious forces that have participated in my choices. They are in some way portraits of these forces." The Lesson, in content and form, reflects Kim’s interest in the movement between what is at once graspable and illusive, in the exchanges between the work and the self.
