Through the attentive act of drawing, Andrea Sherrill Evans brings focus to places where nature reveals complex histories of human interaction, ranging from the introduction of invasive plants to the continuous expansion of cities and suburbs. Arizona-born and Baltimore-based, Evans’ perspective is largely influenced by the varied landscapes of the places she has lived. She is a recipient of a MICA Marcella Brenner Grant, Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Fellowship in Drawing, and was a 2019 Trawick Prize Semifinalist. Evans’ work has been exhibited at spaces including Tiger Strikes Asteroid (Brooklyn, NY), Drive-By (Watertown, MA), VisArts (Rockville, MD), Montserrat College of Art (Beverly, MA), SPACE Gallery (Pittsburgh, PA), and phICA (Phoenix, AZ). Evans currently teaches in the Drawing Department at Maryland Institute College of Art.
